Course Overview
Conversations regarding career choice take place throughout one’s life and can become even more apparent during one’s education. As students speak to mentors, family members, faculty, and peers, they may experience interactions that encourage them to pursue one career direction and discourage pursuing another.
The Inclusive Career Conversations modules aim to emphasize the importance of inclusive and supportive career conversations in order to teach individuals at all levels about the concepts of career choice bullying and disparagement and recommend strategies to guide effective, student-centered conversations.

Approval Cycle: July 1, 2022 thru June 30, 2025
The course is divided into five modules with embedded reflection activities, a post-test and evaluation of the activity requiring about one hour to complete.
- Module 1: Defining Career Choice Disparagement/Career Choice Bullying & Inclusive Career Conversations
- Module 2: Where Do Career Choice Disparagement & Career Choice Bullying Show Up
- Module 3: Career Choice Disparagement & Bullying in Relationships
- Module 4: How are Career Decisions Made?
- Module 5: Inclusive and Student-centered Career Conversations

Target Audience
Healthcare professionals, including but not limited to physicians, nurses, dentists, Pharmacists, APRNs, and PA’s.
Method of Participation
Participants will observe a narrated presentation about inclusive and supportive career-centered conversations, and respond to various prompts to elicit thoughts about the importance of this topic within their respective careers and lives. A post-test and evaluation will be required to assess understanding and importance. The estimated time for completion is 1.0 hours. To receive 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™, participants must receive a minimum score of 70% on the post-test.
Learning Objectives
The goals of this training are to:
- Reduce bias and career choice bullying and disparagement that can occur during formal and informal conversations among students, staff, faculty, employees, and trainees.
- Heighten awareness about when career choice bullying and disparagement occur.
- Identify ways that career conversations may unintentionally include disparaging interactions that can lead to bullying.
- Recommend strategies and approached to guide and support career conversation.
Accreditation
The University of Connecticut School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Connecticut School of Medicine designates this enduring material for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
