Course Overview
The Primary Care Career Advising and Mentoring Program (PCCAMP) has as its mission “to stimulate student interest in primary care and reinvigorate the primary care field”. PCCAMP provides busy teaching practitioners with the tools to effectively counsel, mentor and advise health profession students about career opportunities and choices.

Approval Cycle: July 1, 2022 thru June 30, 2025
This course is designed to give the participant guidance on how to use the PCCAMP website for successfully engaging in student-centered career advising and mentoring.
The course is divided into four segments, a post-test and evaluation of the activity requiring 80 minutes to complete.

- Evaluation of activity
The first segment, What is PCCAMP?, is a video presentation on the concept of PCCAMP and provides a demonstration of the PCCAMP website. The remaining three segments include a case scenario and a series of questions that we ask you to initially consider before moving into the video presentation. The website will be demonstrated in each segment.
Target Audience
Healthcare professionals, including but not limited to physicians, nurses, dentists, Pharmacists, APRNs, and PA’s.
Method of Participation
Learners will view a webcast of slides and accompanying video and audio. To successfully earn credit, participants must complete the activity online, including a post-test and evaluation. The estimated time for completion is one hour and twenty minutes. To receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™, participants must receive a minimum score of 70% on the post-test.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this module, course participants will:
- Recognize appropriate communication skills to use in interacting with a student during advising and mentoring interactions.
- Utilize mentoring strategies to enhance interaction with students interested in primary care.
- Implement a student-centered approach to advising students through the decision process for selection of specialty.
Accreditation
The University of Connecticut School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Connecticut School of Medicine designates this enduring material for a maximum of 1.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
